The first draft of a scope description for WG2 is listed below. At this time Carlos and Faye would like to encourage discussions on this draft and on possible goals & tasks for this working group.


Scope Description for Working Group 2:
Developing & Delivering Educational and Professional Development Opportunities that Support Integrated Water Resources Management

The participants in this working group will focus on how we can make effective use of the Internet for water-related education and professional development opportunities that support integrated water resources management efforts. The group will discuss online educational needs, delivery methods, water sciences and management-related content, and potential target audiences. The future of educational efforts in the age of the Internet will be discussed, as well as specific programs ranging from distance learning seminars to virtual universities and learning centers.

The purpose of this working group is to:

* Discuss the types of educational opportunities and programs that the Internet makes possible:

      + analyzing available technologies (email, listservs, CD-ROM, Web-based, video-conferencing, etc.)
      + evaluating successful online educational models and efforts already in use

* Identify what educational and professional development needs exist in the international water resources community

     + assessing interest and demand for specific topics and/or skills related to IWRM
     + targeting potential audiences

* Explore how we can utilize the Internet to most effectively serve these needs

     + matching technologies to content and audience
     + encouraging partnerships to develop and deliver content
     + funding these online educational efforts
