Greetings from Carlos Fernandez-Jauregui (Uruguay) and Faye Anderson (USA). We will serve as facilitators for Working Group 2 and we look forward to your participation in these discussions on developing and delivering educational and professional development opportunities via the Internet. The Internet's capabilities are opening up many exciting possibilities for educational efforts and this group will explore how water professionals can most effectively make use of these capabilities.
About your facilitators:
Carlos A. Fernandez-Jauregui Carlos is a professional engineer with postgraduate studies in hydrology and water resources in both Bolivia and Germany. He is a former professor of hydrology and director of the Institute of Hydrology and Hydraulics at the University of La Paz. Presently, he is the UNESCO Regional Hydrologist for Latin America and the Caribbean (see http://www.unesco.org.uy/PHI). Carlos is very interested in the possibilities of delivering water-related educational efforts throughout the Americas.
Faye Anderson Faye is a lecturer in the Dept. of Geography at Southern Illinois University where she teaches environmental economics and sustainable development courses. She works for IWRA and is busy finishing her Ph.D. in water resources planning. She is interested in the roles the Internet can play in facilitating sustainable water resources management, and is excited by the possibilities presented by online educational efforts. Her educational philosophy viewpoints have been greatly influenced by Paulo Freire and John Dewey.
We are both very excited to be working with this group and are working on some background documents which we will post shortly. We invite your participation and look forward to our discussions, both online and at WIS-3 in Miami!
